My Hobbies

Resting is not a waste of time. It's an investment in well-being.

Relaxing is not a sign of laziness. It's a source of energy.

Breaks are not a distraction. They are a chance to refocus attention.

Play is not a frivolous activity. It's a path to connection and creativity.

Fitness

I love all sports in general. Over time I have experienced many, from the most classic such as football, swimming, cycling and running to the less popular, such as squash and rollerblades. To put it in the words of my wife, periodically “I enter a phase” and I dedicate myself body and soul to the toy of the moment.

I believe that sport is essential for achieving and maintaining psycho-physical balance. Having always carried out a decidedly sedentary job, I well understand the benefits of physical activity and I really couldn’t do without it.

In recent years, I am “in the running phase”: I try to go running 3 times a week and I train to participate in some competitions every year: marathons, half marathons and trails. Going for a run on the waterfront before entering the office is great!

In the “previous phase” I trained with the Master Swim team. Swimming is great and remains my favorite sport!

Sport in general teaches you the value of perseverance, of the commitment to reach the goal, of the sacrifice in view of the finish line.

Reading

I confess it: the first book I ever read from top to bottom as a boy was the Microsoft’s MS-DOS user manual! It should be enough to explain that I have read far more manuals than novels…  😀

I love fantastic stories, especially science fiction, but I prefer reading to get to know reality. I am curious by nature and I like to cross over into little known but truly fascinating fields, such as cosmology, astronomy and physics.

Here on the side you will find some of the books that I have read with greater pleasure.

Travel

Who doesn’t love to travel? People who travel for business or for leisure will probably agree: experiences abroad change your mindset… for the better. For sure traveling makes you more open-minded.

Moments of being immersed in a totally different culture play a key role in allowing to develop a more open mind. You can recognize that different cultures has different priorities. Travelling you become open to other ways of doing things. In this way, travel is a pure form of education. Furthermore, travel forces you to try new things: spending time abroad will encourage you to get outside of your comfort zone and try things that you probably wouldn’t have thought to at home. In other parts of the world, people speak, eat, work and socialize differently. The way they interact with each other is also different. People who travel to different lands will find that their perspectives change and their minds become more open.

When you travel, you meet new people, cultures, experience new things, embark on all sorts of adventures (good and bad), and perhaps even redefine your meaning of life. Because you are learning and gaining information from new places and people, travel can also shape you into a better, more well rounded person.

The Covid pandemic has held us back for a while and has certainly reduced our opportunities to travel, but there is no reason to give up!

And also Diving, and Digital Photography, and... 😉
